King George was 22 years old when he became the British king in 1760. A lot of people thought that he was mean and unfair, but hexternal image George_III_in_Coronation_Robes.jpge was just trying to be a good king. Some people thought that he was unfair because he taxed them, but he just wanted his country to have a lot of money. As more people protested, King George became angrier. The colonists tried to get the King to listen but he just ignored them. When the colonists dumped the tea into the harbor because they didn't want to pay for taxing, King George closed down the harbor. More and more people complained to the King. Eventually these complaints led to rebellion in the North American colonies, and war broke out. Even when the British leaders wanted to end the war, King George wanted to keep fighting.

It was said that George had a deasease that soon made him not able to make decisions. So from there his oldest son took care of his political duties in George's last nine years of his reign. The King's full name was George William Fredrick. It was known that he had a good father, he was a loyal friend and a good husband. There were many Loyalists on King George's side but there were also a lot of patriots that hated him. King George made a lot of laws like the stamp act that he had repealed after a lot of arguing. Another law that he passed was the Proclamation of 1763, and it said that the colonists couldn"t go to the mountains because he worried that they would get hurt from the Indians. A lot of people hated these laws.

Word reached King George that the colonists demanded independence. George didn't want them to leave England, so he sent soldiers to fight them. After a long time of fighting the colonists won independence. George Washington was an enemy of King George, so King George wasn't very happy that the colonists won. King George III suffered periodic episodes of insanity and when he died was both insane and blind. King George died in 1820, and it made all of the Loyalists sad. On the other hand the Patriots were thrilled.
